Verhext’s interview
Thursday February 19th, 2009 by modepass • Categories: USA • 1,837 views •Well, Verhext, tell us a little more about yourself…
I was born in the woods and I live in a city now. I went to school for costume design but I haven’t done theatre in a long time, I just make tiny things. I have a tiny cabin on a long road where no one else lives but it’s far from where I live most of the time so I never get to go there!
and about the city, you live (San Francisco)…
Right now there are cherry blossoms everywhere & it’s happymaking!! It’s dark and stormy and windy and rainy and then the next morning blue and pink like a candyland!!
Could you tell us more why you like blogging and what do you search inside them ?
I had a livejournal for a long time and that was more like a confidante-secret type journal, but now I have verhext.com and it’s really about inspirations and focusing on the magic in life. I love seeing how people respond & share their own magical experiences. I look for other blogs that are super inspirational and beautiful!
Has fashion a big place in your everyday life ?
Completely. I feel like what I wear is part of who I am and part of how I experience what’s around me. When I can’t figure out what to wear in the morning I get cranky.
What kind of fashion do you design?
Forest & fancy!!! Since I’m from the forest but I live in cities now, there’s still some wild witchiness in me that wants to walk through the woods but in tattered silks. Glamour forever!
Can you describe your personal style ?
Pippi Longstocking meets Buffy St Marie meets Jean White meets Myrna Loy.
Who is your fashion icon? (fashion designer, artist, journalist, blogger, star, ) ?
Vali Myers. In her beatnik Left Bank Parisian phase (1949ish), but also in her crazy witchy Italian phase. Apparently she was one of the first to wear thick black eye makeup and was once told by Duchamp (I think?) “Congratulations on the maquillage.”
What is your favorite fashion or beauty ad?
Alberta Ferretti Spring/Summer 2009, shot by Steven Meisel
What is your favorite period - fashionly speaking ?
I can’t decide!!! I love love love the beatnik look, black boatneck sweaters, black tights. I also really love smoky eyes and silk dresses and feathers and rhinestones ~ flapper styles. One for everyday, and one for dressing up. Usually I look kind of 70s, though, buckskin skirts and Frye boots.
And now, start of , what we call, in French, a chinese portrait, a Portrait chinois.
If you were a fashion icon? Clara Bow
a cloth? Antique tulle, spattered with tarnished sequins.
an accessory? A fur stole.
a fashion designer? Bill Gibb. No, wait. Biba!!
a jewel? Pearl.
a secret to become a stylish girl? Love life!! Happiness is always stylish.
Did you play on Paris Life Style on Modepass, what do you think about it ?
I did! I think I should win, and go to Paris with my lovely friend Elly and we should sit in cafes & write & draw & look at art & shop. Don’t you?
Do you want to add something personal in this interview (a word, drawing, writing ,….) ?
A photo of a life sized nest I made as part of a gallery installation.
