Well, Niftythriftyowl, tell us a little more about yourself…

Well, I am currently engaged and a very busy woman! I just graduated in November with a BFA in Graphic Design. I love the Arts, Music and especially Fashion! I think that’s where most of my money goes. It’s just so fun to express yourself and be creative with outfits. I also love to make things. From jewelry to sewing to knitting… and more and more ideas and avenues are always spinning through my mind. I’m currently running my Etsy site (niftythriftyowl.etsy.com) for handmade and my Ebay site (stores.ebay..com/niftythriftyowlvintage) for vintage. My fiance helps me some, but most of the weight is currently on my shoulders. I feel pretty spread thin. On top of planning a wedding, having two part time jobs, and trying to maintain two online stores is fairly stressful! Especially because all of it takes sooo much time! I am currently considering bringing the  vintage back to etsy because ebay is harder to keep up with. You really have to have a lot of stuff and every week for it to do well. Once I’m married (which will be in June!) and settled, I think all of this will come together better!

and about the city you live

Currently living in a small town/ college town called Ruston which is in the state Louisiana. My fiance is finishing up school and then we will probably move away to a bigger city where the arts, music and fashion thrive! We are interested in Nashville or South Carolina or wherever life takes us…  Ruston is a nice town to live in while you are in college, but it does not have much opportunity for those who are wishing to pursue art, music or fashion. Especially in the style we love. I do love how everything is really close in Ruston. It takes me less than 5 minutes to get anywhere! It’s definitely got a “homey” feel to it. But we will be happy to move to a bigger city where there is more to do!

Could you tell us more why you like blogging and what do you search inside them ?

Well, I like keeping updated on people. Just to see all the different styles out there is very interesting to me. Looking at pictures is definitely my favorite part. I’m also interested in how people are wearing things. You can take the same dress and put it on 5 different women and it could potentially look completely different because of the way they look, and they way they accessorize it. So, I just like to see who people wear different clothing. I also enjoy people who make their photographs look artistic with a variety of angle shots and editing techniques.

Has fashion a big place in your everyday life ?

Yes! I think about clothes and accessories way too much, probably. I’m always invisioning my wardrobe in my closet and trying to put outfits together. The weather here is crazy, though. It really cripples me from being able to just wear whatever I want. One day it will be cold and the next day it will be warm, and then within one day it could go from 32 degrees F to 75 degrees F.  You really have to dress for the weather.

Can you describe your personal style ?

My aim is not to be trendy, but I do keep in mind what the trends are. Some of the trends I like, and others I do not. I just try to wear what I’m drawn to, what looks good on my body type and what expresses who I am.  I enjoy being casual most days. But definitely not plain. I like to be casual yet unique. I like to wear vintage clothing, vintage-inspired clothing, urban clothing, handmade items… it’s fun to mix these together to get a one-of-a-kind look. I’m not a huge fan of stereotyping, but I guess my style would best fit with the “indie” style.  I love the 60s 70s and 80s. I love the mod and chic of the 60s, the relaxed hippie style and neutral colors of the 70s, and the bright retro geometric look of the 80s. Though I enjoy being casual most of the time, I also love to dress up in heels and a nicer outfit too. For special occasions, I really enjoy getting all dolled up! I apply everything I learned in art & graphic design to everything I make and wear. They way I design, create, and dress all takes into account color, layout, unity and just overall the way things go together.

Who is your fashion icon ? (fashion designer, artist, journalist, blogger, star, your mother…) ?

I’m really not influenced by one or even just a few in particular. I’m affected and inspired by everything.  Definitely Jackie O and people like that, but I also keep up with what’s at Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, H&M, Anthropologie, Free People, Mod Cloth etc. I also like to keep up with Ebay & Etsy vintage sellers and see what they are selling and how they are styling.  I do a lot of thrifting and go to a lot of estate sales, so the vintage I come in contact with also inspires me. Like most fashion designers, much of what we see today is inspired by the past.

What is your favorite fashion or beauty ad ?

This is really hard! Hmm… I guess you mean a magazine? I really enjoy N.E.E.T. magazine online!

What is your favorite period – fashionly speaking ?

Though I LOVE 60s, 70s, and 80s fashion… I think I dress most like the 70s. I’m pretty casual and boho most days. But when I dress up I’m like the chic and mod of the 60s. I do not like 90s fashion. Even though it’s coming back in style, I will not wear it..

Did you play on Paris Life Style on Modepass, what do you think about it ?

I thought it was a very interesting and cool idea. I would LOVE to go to Paris one day! But I was discouraged  that I would not have the time to make my page like I would need to in order to win…

Do you want to add something personal in this interview (a word, drawing, writing ,….) ?
