Well, Painfullyhip, tell us a little more about yourself and about the city, you live
My name is Amber Mortensen. I am the creator, main writer and sole owner of PainfullyHip.com.
I started Painfully Hip in March of 2007 whilst working at a Vancouver, BC sound studio for film and television, attending to B list movie actors, bored out of my mind 70% of the day. Blogging was something productive to do while I waited to get coffee for Jean Claude Van Damme or Evangeline Lilly. I loved Vancouver, but unfortunately 8 months of winter a year did not agree with me. So in September 2007 after 7 years in Canada, I took a blind leap, packed up my car and moved to gorgeous midtown Sacramento.

I’m now extremely stoked on being self-employed and can be found wandering about town with my laptop and/or ukulele on my bicycle, gleefully soaking up my 7 year deficit of vitamin D. Sacramento has been good to me. In the year since I moved here, I’ve modeled in 6 local fashion shows, been featured in Sacramento Magazine and multiple times in the News and Review, who’ve now hired me as a freelance fashion writer. In December 2008, I wrote and styled my first professional fashion article and photoshoot. Loved it.

What does it mean: “Just what if hokey pokey really IS what it’s all about?.” -  your headline on Modepass
That’s me being silly, I think people take life too seriously sometimes. My religion is dancing.

Could you tell us more why you like blogging and what do you search inside them ?
The reason I started Painfully Hip was because of my love of shopping at a time when I lacked sufficient means to support even a weekly thrifting trip. Blogging gave me a way to “shop” for things I would love to be wearing at that very moment, without creating a vacuum in my wallet. Plus it constantly inspired me to make do with what I had. Now it has become WAY more than that. It has become a way of life full of opportunities and new friendships. Starting this blog was by far the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.

Has fashion a big place in your everyday life ?
Everyone who knows me now knows I’m “the fashion expert.” I’ve loved fashion since I was wee but never thought I’d ever get so many opportunities in the field! I’m excited about doing more writing - another thing I never thought I’d be good at!

Can you describe your personal style ?
I seem to gravitate toward several style personalities! My tendencies are blinding color, mixed patterns, the modernized flapper and self-contradictory outfits (dressy vs. casual / masculine vs. feminine), as seen in my photos.

Who is your fashion icon ? (fashion designer, artist, journalist, blogger, star, your mother…) ?
I adore Charlotte Gainsbourg, Louise Brooks and the peerless Leslie Hall.
My favorite designer at the moment is Matthew Williamson.

What is your favorite fashion or beauty ad ?
I love Ruben Toledo’s illustrations for Nordstrom last year. I did a post (Fashion is nothing without art : Ruben Toledo for Nordstrom) about it when it came out and this week a woman who owns one of the original pieces contacted me wanting to sell it!

What is your favorite period – fashionly speaking ?
The twenties and thirties! I’ve been told that I look as if I should have been born a flapper!

And now, start of , what we call, in french, a chinese portrait, a Portrait chinois.
If you were a fashion icon? For Halloween I was Edie Sedgwick and I somehow managed to pull it off, but I think I would be make a much better Louise Brooks.
A clothe? If I could wear nothing but dresses at all times, I would.
An accessory? Shoes!
A fashion designer? Matthew Williamson must have figured out a way to see into my dreams.
A jewel? Amber!
A secret to become a stylish girl? You’re more beautiful than you think - the flaws that you believe are constantly glaring out at the world like a large goiter are most likely only visible to you. Be unrepentant. Be happy to be you. Wear your personality and creativity with the confidence that you know exactly who you are and what you love, and eventually your peacock swagger will appear, along with the realization that you really are precisely as hot as you feel.
